It is designed to deflect projectiles if the body of the target is hit. The arms are mounted in rubber so if they are hit they will flex out of the way without damaging them. This target comes with a base plate so you can use it inside a range or you can also use it outside by just removing it from the base plate and stepping on the step bar to insert it in the ground. This target runs on a 9 volt battery that has been timed to run for 56 hours then shut off.  I do not know how long it will run before the battery goes dead.  Also it comes with an extra set of arms and a 9 volt battery.  It also comes with a 120 ac volt to a 9 volt d.c. convertor. It will deflect low volisisty projectiles like arrows,BB guns, 22 rifles ect. It will not deflict high volisity projectiles. They have been purchased by many archery clubs in Michigan and across the U.S..
