From my private collection... an outstanding and VERY RARE example of a mid 1800s Sheffield blade. Though faint and difficult to picture, in engraved scrolls it says "NEVER DRAW ME WITHOUT REASON, NOR SHEATH ME WITHOUT HONOUR". Believe this is also known as a side or belt knife or dagger with both edges very sharp.  This piece is a FINE quality Sheffield blade made by H.G. Long & Co. and comes with its original red leather sheath with silver throat and chape! A very scarce original combination and hard to find. Beautiful sterling handle is dent free! Somewhere in the past the blade was cleaned and polished making the engraving faint. Very minor spotting has re-occurred. Marked "H.G. Long & Co., Sheffield" and a stamped "Shield with Crossed Swords" circa 1850s or the 1849 Gold Rush Era! Very rare to find. Overall length is 10 3/4 inches, blade is 6 inches. Tight but guard is a little loose. A very nice example for your historic collection. Sorry, this item must ship Priority and insured.
