Description
2004 Trek Madone 56cm Up for bid, a absolutely beautiful 2004 Trek Madone 5.9 featuring Trek's "SL" 110 carbon frame. The very pinnacle of todays cycling technology goes beyond and becomes something truly special. Incredible engineering and performance in a 7 time Tour De France winning wrapper. This 20 speed Dura-Ace powered WunderBike is awesome to look at and a true dream to ride. Shimanos awesome top drawer Dura-Ace 10 speed groupo...Trek's SUPERLIGHT, Tour De France winning 110 OCLV Carbon frame all team up to create a bike with few peers and best of all, there is no reserve. Whomever has the high bid on the eve of Sunday August 31th gets to experience this bike for themselves! To describe this bike as beautiful is like saying water is wet. Its shape is so organic and its finish of such a high luster that you just can't help but touch it. There are so many interesting concepts rolled into the design that you'd have to study the bike for an hour just to find them all. And it's not all beauty... this bikes SUPER LIGHTWEIGHT allows it to float up hills and doesn't let it waste an ounce of pedal force. The paint is incredible in that it is specially applied in a manner to put as little paint material on the bike as possible to keep the bike as light as possible. That's right. Trek thought that the additional 14 grams of their standard paint coating was too much! So even the painting process was designed to keep weight to an absolute minimum. I believe carbon offers the best combination of ride quality and torsional rigidity. This means the bike is compliant vertically which allows for a decent ride, but rigid horizontally which means that power applied to the pedals is efficiently laid to the ground. This is due to the technology applied to this bike. In 1992 Trek introduced its OCLV carbon process. The acronym stands for Optimum Compaction Low Void, and indicates the pressure-molding process Trek uses to makes its tubes. The objective is to squeeze as much of the resin matrix as possible out of the composite, leaving only enough to glue together the important carbon fibers themselves. Over the years Trek has improved its OCLV process by using stronger varieties of carbon fiber. Just as in metal frame construction, a stronger material means less of it is required and resulting frame is lighter. The numeric designations ("OCLV 110") associated with OCLV relates to the GSM (grams per square meter) measurement of the material. OCLV frames are the lightest frames out there when strength is taken into consideration. The biggest benefit of using carbon fiber for a bicycle frame is its ultimate strength to weight ratio. Trek has invested millions of dollars perfecting this patented OCLV process. If there are any air bubbles in the laminate, they create voids (air pockets within the structure) or weak spots. Every Carbon bike made has issues with either voids or wall thickness control. The approved aircraft industry spec for carbon laminate is under 2% voids. Trek OCLV frames average fewer than 1% voids. This is a serious piece of equipment that only a handful of people can even understand, let alone produce. I thought it might be nice to explain why the Trek OCLV series bikes are so special. To ride one is to understand as this bike accelerates like a V8 on full boil and climbs like a billy goat I have ridden a lot of road bikes. The OCLV has the best combination of weight and performance of any frame building technology anywhere. The standard set by these OCLV frames will likely never be surpassed. The drive train is Dura-Ace accentuated by Bontragers various "Race-Lite" components. These components work incredibly well as an integrated package offering really smooth and fast shifting, incredible braking and a very good platform from which to use them to their full capabilities. They are light weight, engineered to watch-like precision and very durable. 20 speeds of Shimano shifting accuracy are at your disposal. Dura-Ace cranks are 175mm and carry 53/39t chainrings. Shifting is controlled by Dura-Ace shift/brake levers connected to Dura-Ace dérailleurs front and rear. A Bontrager Race xXx lite stem is mounted to matching Bontrager Racelite bars. Powerful Dura-Ace dual pivot brake calipers clench down on Bontragers Race X lite 700c clincher wheels. The San Marco Aspide Team saddle is incredibly light and rides atop a Dura Ace seatpost. All the components are in perfect mechanical order as the bike has been very well maintained. (Pedals are not included as I figure anyone looking at this level of bike already has pedals.) The Bontrager Racelite 700c wheelset is one of the best aluminum based wheels out there. At only 1580 grams they are very light as well. But where they really shine is durability. These wheels have been known to survive some serious mileage and riders rave about their long term service life. They are beautifully made and it is obvious that Trek spent some time in their design. Radial laced, bladed front spokes and cross-laced rear, these wheels are about as good as a set of everyday wheels can get not to mention they are wrapped in Continental GP Attack rubber. These wheels are anodized a stealthy bronze color which, in the pictures, makes the spokes look like they are rusted. They are not. It is simply a combination of the time of day the pictures were taken and the reflection of the anodization. Wheels are true and round and carry some serious speed. Front fork is Bontrager Race XXX Lite, OCLV 110 Carbon. It features the same 110 OCLV technology as the frame and is one of the reasons for this bikes feathery weight. Carbon forks really dampen the ride and give direct steering feedback. It is in beautiful condition and is a lot better then the prior generation forks. Cosmetic and mechanical condition is excellent. Very few marks on the bike anywhere and the mechanical condition is prime. The bike actually looks better in person then these pictures suggest. Very minor marks can be found in the usual places like on the face of the cranks or near the brake lever hoods (from the bike being propped up against walls and the like...). All decals are 100% intact and the bike needs nothing. This bike is in outstanding condition! Very little in the way of cable rub, wear to braking surfaces or gears or worn out tires. This bike just gleams in the sunlight thanks to it's metallic carbon grey finish. It is contrasted by the white/blue graphics interspersed throughout the frame. This bike is a real piece of eye candy. This bike is competitive right out of the box. Yes, it also makes a great all around bike just as a Porsche 911 can be used as a daily driver. But it's when it's going full steam that it really shines. A lot of time and effort went into the development of these bikes and it shows. A proven international race winner at the highest level, these bikes will be likely viewed historically as the only bike in our lifetime to ever win the most grueling road race 7 times consecutively. No one else can lay claim to that and to that and it seems almost unbelievable that an American bike manufacturer took both the technological and psychological lead in world cycling. The Trek OCLV bikes are truly a phenomenal achievement. The frame measures 56cm from the center of the bottom bracket axle to the top of the seat tube. Stand over height is 31" inches. The bikes reach measures 27.5" inches (As measured from the center point of the seat post under the saddle to the center point of the where handlebars attach to the stem) and the top tube length is 56cm measured c-t-c. A really great article on bike fitting can be found by clicking d HERE.. Terms Of AuctionFirst, we try not to have to much "small print" but there is in fact a lot of good information about important stuff like how we pack these incredible bikes as well as why we use ONLY FedEX for the shipping and what the time frame for shipping is and why. So please read this information as it will help answer a lot of potential questions you may have about such an important purchase. We offer no international shipping. Don't ask, the request will be denied. Overseas fraud and high shipping costs prohibits it. If you are overseas and would like to purchase a bike you see simply make sure the bid you are placing is coming from within the U.S. (Ebay blocks foreign bidders on our listings) and that the ship to address is in the 48 continuous United States. I am happy to ship the bike to a friend or family member so long as they are here on domestic soil. Payment expected within 5 days of auction close. If you cannot pay in this period of time please contact me and we'll work out something convenient for you. I'm easy to deal with and want any transaction I'm involved in to not only be smooth but also a pleasurable experience. Shipping will be $55 and that includes INSURANCE. Please allow up to 15 business days for the bike to be packed and an additional 4 days for FedEX insured delivery. Every so often I will get an email with regards to my shipping policies. To clarify these policies and time periods I can tell you the following.... We use FedEX and FedEX ONLY! They are the best at handling bicycles and they do an excellent job overall to make sure these very expensive and sometimes delicate machines make it to their destinations in one piece. We hand pack every bike ourselves using FedEX approved, BIKE SPECIFIC boxes. All bikes are packed using new packing materials. All bikes are shipped with proper bicycle specific plastic packing supports in place to protect the bike from crushing side loads sometimes experienced during shipping. These include the installation of plastic fork supports to keep the front fork from penetrating the bottom of the box and dérailleur side load supports and axle shields to keep the axle of the wheels from penetrating the side of the box. Also, we insert a SECOND SHIPPING LABEL in every box in case the original label is somehow pulled off the box. This ensures that the bike will make it to it's destination. Lastly the box is sealed with industrial box staples to keep the load securely enclosed. (These are steps that other sellers on eBay just won't do.) Oh and if you think FedEX insurance covers the bike while under their care, think again! The last thing FedEX wants to do is sign off on a claim of damage for a bike that costs as much as some used cars. They will deny the claim for the simplest of reasons. That is why we cover all the bases. We take EVERY precaution to make sure this bike is not only packed correctly but is also covered for TRUE insurance. The second reason we require a 15 business day packing window is that we, just like many of you, have a family. We do all packing of a bicycle on the weekend as it takes a significant block of time. Bikes that are shipped on the weekend generally go out on Tuesday or Wednesday. (FedEX Home Delivery is closed Sundays and Mondays) Also, we do not ship when it is raining. A wet bike box doesn't ship as well as a dry one. All these steps may lengthen the time to ship out but the one thing I can say that few others can is that my bikes will make it to you as promised, as advertised and in EXACTLY the condition that it left in. Packing a bike is something that takes experience and taking short cuts will only land you in the nightmare of the FedEX claims department which can take months to resolve. Better to do it right the first time. All bikes require a signature upon delivery. Bikes are not packed until payment is received so keep in mind that if payment takes a week to receive that means a week delay in the packing of said bike. Local pick-up is always available. Oh and a note to other ebaY sellers who do not allow for local pickup.... Your one of the small handful of things that give ebaY a bad name. Take your smoke and mirrors show somewhere else. As a buyer and seller on ebaY I find your underhanded profit tactics a disgrace and not at all in the spirit of what ebaY is... an open marketplace. I take PayPal payments sent to echarnho@san.rr.com. or money orders. THIS IS NOT MY EMAIL ADDRESS. I ONLY take PayPal payments at this address. Email communications should be sent through eBay's messaging system itself. If paying by money order, please contact me post auction for mailing address. Paying with PayPal will expedite shipping. Pedals are not included with bikes unless otherwise noted as I figure anyone looking at this level of equipment already has a favorite pedals system. Feel free to contact me, Eric, anytime with any questions you may have. My phone number (858.775.7878) is listed for a reason. I not only invite your calls but I love talking bikes. There is no such thing as a stupid question so feel free to ask by email OR phone. Lastly, If you have zero (0) or negative feedback, I ask that you contact me first before bidding. I reserve the right to cancel bids from such members.
