At less than a pound, this is a great axe to pack along for glacier alpine touring, early season snow hikes and anywhere you might run into snow.  To keep weight to a minimum, the shaft is made of aluminum and the 4mm all steel head has cut-outs to lighten weight without sacrificing self-arrest, step cutting or chopping efficiency. Weighs under 1 lb. The gouge-shaped adze and the rounded pick teeth are designed to be comfortable when held piolet-canne style. (that's French for "by the top.")  The adze is curved in both directions matching your natural swing.   Spike is rounded to a point for variable speed control while glissading.
