Surfing contest program from 1962 Waianae' Description Not many made... and few saved... that's the story with this old surf contest program. The 9th Annual International Surfing Championships were hosted by the Waikiki Surf Club and held at Makaha in Waianae, Oahu back in January of 1962. They normally held the event in December and they changed to January, that is why you won't see a 1961 program (this would have been it) and perhaps why it is so scarce as many tourists and traveling surfers had already went back to the Mainland. Great photos by Don James, Val Valentine, Bud Browne, LeRoy Grannis and some of the contest judges include Wallace Froiseth, Rabbit Kekai, John Kelly, Paul Strauch, Dave Rochlen, and Henry Preece.
