Very unusual table in that there is a metal label on the end rail that says, Phelan and Collender Cushions. On the top of one of the end rails is a Brunswick-Balke-Collender original label and on the side panel under the pocket is inlaid, JM B&B, indicating to me that this table was probably under construction at the precise time that the merger was under way. The Phelan and Collender metal tag has the date 1867 on it. Perfect original condition. This is a 9 foot table that was converted from carom more than 100 years ago. 4 piece slate 1 inch thick in perfect condition. Rosewood veneer base with maple and birdfeye maple inlay and accents. Skirts are original and perfect. There is not a scratch in this table and this is the ORIGINAL finish. I have only seen one other table from this era in this condition and it is doubtful there is many in existance quite like this. Later versions of the Nonpareil had inlaid panels on the sides and ends and the pattern changed but this is unmistakenly a pre-merger J.M Brunswick and Balke table. The rails are maple base with Brazilian Rosewood overlay and real ivory diamond rail sights. The rails are attached to the slate with T bolts that have been plated for a desired look instead of the usual brass rosettes that cover the bolts.This is not your typical estate sale bargain buy table. This is one of the finest original condition tables any of us will ever see and it belongs in the home of the person who can appreciate the true value of a work of perfection from 130 years ago before we had electricity, cars and power tools.
