Description
Circa 1917 This pool table is an estate item. It's believed to have been in the same family for quite a while. We know that the top (felt area) has been redone on it but suspect that the rest is untouched original and considering that, it's in remarkably good shape for its age. Below is an appraisal we ordered on it to have a sense as to what it is worth. This is a no reserve auction so the high bidder will take it. It will need to be picked up and dismantled by the purchaser at auction's end from Manchester, CT. The seller is unable to transport, ship, load or disassemble the table. It's currently in a basement. Please ask any questions prior to bidding. See below for greater detail on the table. A fellow ebayer who is knowledgeable on these tables provided us with a link for more info on the table and how it was built back in the day, etc. You can read up on it at: http://www.brunswickbilliards.com/our_rich_history/antique_tables/madison.html The photo on the brunswick website looks just like this table. So I think it's safe to say that this is the Madison model. Appraisal ID: 168647 Appraised On: 26-06-2008 Title: 1918? Antique Pool Table Date/Era/Period: Early 1900s Description: Monarch Cushion, Brunswick-Balke-Collender Aug. 21, 1917 appr. meas. 8'6" x 4" 4" (playing surface) Condition: Has scratches, scuffs. In need of minor restoration. Origin: The item has been with the same family for years. It's an estate item. Provenance: Not that we know of. Appraised By: Alicia Colvin Appraiser Comments: Circa: 1920 This is a Madison Antique Pocket Billiard by Brunswick Balke Collender. This Art Deco style Antique Pocket Billiard is furnished in quartered oak with American walnut rail caps. The slate is Vermont grade and doweled pins lock the slate together. Authenticity: The expert, Alicia Colvin, is of the opinion that this item IS authentic.Reason: The cut in the wood, especially at the bottom of the legs and the leather bound pockets proves its authenticity. I do believe it has been refurbished. It would be a miracle to have felt that looked that good after 88 years. (at least it appears that way in the photo) Items can NEVER be authenticated over the internet but must be seen in-person by an expert in order to verify authenticity. This service is meant to provide an unbiased expert’s opinion based on the information available to them through the auction listing. * Current Fair Market Value: $6,500.00 ** Replacement Cost: $8,000.00 All values are in US currency
