Description
Beautiful antique billard table. My father purchased from A E Schmidt in 1975. A E Schmidt had completely restored it. He is retiring and ready to let go of this beautiful table he has so enjoyed for many years. We had A E Schmidt come out and give us a value of the billard table. Their value is at $20,000.00 The Description: Only 2 of these tables were made in France. One with 6 legs and one with eight legs. My fathers has six legs. This would make it a one of a kind table. Mother of Pearl inlaid diamond shapes accent the top outer edges. The table is lined with gold felt and is mint condition as well as the table. The size Four and three quarters by nine and one half or 5x10. A picture is included with this description. The History: A E Schmidt Company bought it from the Illini Club of Illinois and was completely restored by A E Schmidt Company. Old Timers of the club say that this table was exhibited at one of the great expositions probably The Worlds Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893. A prominent member of the Illini Club Mr. Richard "Dick" Ward, purchased the table somewhere back east to quote and elderly member and donated it to the club. One old ledger discloses that in 1907 Illini Club moved to another location so they would have room for this table. It was there that A E Schmidt purchased the table. Many Prominent Citizen, now deceased enjoyed many happy hours playing local tournaments on the table. Among them the honorable Henry J Rainey Speaker of the House: Judge Norman L. Jones State Supreme Court Justice; and the honorable Sid Simpson Congressman from the district. It appears the table became known for its large size. As a consquence many of the great billard players of the day visited Illini Club to give exhibitions of their skill. Among the greats were Messrs.William Hoppe,Jake Schaeffer and Johnny Layton. This description of the history is hand written in beautiful hand writing and framed for display whereever the table is. Also included are 2 sets of ivory balls. One set is missing the 8 ball. 13 que sticks with rack. Also the light for above the pool is also included with this table.  Please only serious inquiries. Picking up or shipping is the responsibility of the buyer. There are companies who dismantle, ship and set up. In St. Louis that would be A.E. Schmidt. Any work or movement of this table was their  responsibility ordered and paid for by my father in the past.  Any questions just email and I will respond as quickly as possible.  I was just at my Fathers on 5/30/08 and decided to take another look at the table. The pictures do this table no justice. In person this table is amazing and in amazing condition. And if gold is not your color for the liner...the company that distmantles, ships and sets up can also change the color of the liner. However it does cost around $150.00. You should check on this because it has been a long time since the liner has been changed. Dark brown would look awesome. The liner now is in mint condition so it does not need to be changed. Through talking with my Dad yesterday he did say that he could take the table apart if someone wanted to pick it up them selves. He said who ever purchases it would need to bring bubble wrap to protect the railings and muscle to help carry the slate. And should have a means of moving the slate securely. For set up you would need a professional. He said they can put the liner back on perfect. I would consider offers but please don't be insulting. I know the value of the table and I know what my Dad paid for it several years ago. And the price I have listed is not out of line at all. If anything we would be low on the price. You would not be disappointed. Thanks for looking. 6/3/08. I spoke with A.E. Schmidt today to try and get an idea of shipping costs. It all depends on where you live. So if you could give me an address I can call them and get a better idea of the shipping cost. He did also say that someone could pick up the table themselves if handled carefully. I spoke with him on our asking price just to be sure. He confirmed the price is in line with the market. He did say that if the economy was better the table would go for much more. The person I spoke with asked me the name of my father after hearing a little bit about the table. I told him my Dads last name...he already knew his first name. He remembers him from 1975 when my Dad purchased the table. He assured me the history is accurate. And if you would like to speak with him to confirm any information that would be possible. Once you see this table you can not take your eyes off it. So if you are looking for a bargain this would be it. 6/25/08. Wanted to add that the slate is 4 pieces and 1 3/4 thick. I will be on vacation from July 11,2008 to July 20,2008. My store will be active and I will be able to monitor it while I am away. I will be able answer questions.   I will email you to acknowlege I received your purchase and will ship as soon as I get home. I will be  visiting my daughter and her family. I live in Illinois and she now lives in Las Vegas. She is my only daughter. You never realize how wonderful it is to see someone you love everyday until you can't. I am very excited about seeing them. I hope your summer will be spent close to family too. Thank you again.     Sales are final. I am not a professional. Unfortunately I have to add that insurance and shipping are the responsibility of the buyer.   I appreciate your time and if you buy...please enjoy.
