It does not have the widespread popularity of the Barong or Kris but the Panabas is revered as great sword for both peacetime and war. Panabases range in size from 2ft - 4ft. They were used by farmers to clear foilage as it is a composite of an axe and a sickle. Noticing the chopping power of the weapon the Moros of Mindanao put the sword into service as a tool of execution. This particular style of Panabas has been designed by my instructor, Grand-Master "Yuli" Romo. You can not find an equivilant piece on the net - trust me I've looked! It does look very similar to the 3rd one shown on page 90 of Cato's book "Moro Swords". Please note the full tang of the aluminium. The wood used is "Sampalok" (Citrus Wood) and the cord is expertly wrapped round for grip. At the edge there are native designs too.
